Building your first game
Building a game is four steps: create the game, author a lock, set the reward players earn, then publish and share. You can start with a single lock and grow from there.
1 · Create a game
In the Studio (Your games), give your game a title and an optional description, then create it. That opens the game’s page, where locks live.
Not a creator yet? Turn on the creator role from the account menu first — see accounts & sharing.
2 · Author a lock
On the game page, choose Add a lock and pick a type. The four types behave differently for players — see how to play for each.
- Photo lock: upload a photo of the solved arrangement (the “key image”), then mark the important regions and the rules that must match.
- Combination / directional / cipher: no photo — just set the code, move sequence, or accepted answer.
Shoot your key image the same way you’ll ask players to shoot theirs: fill the frame, light it evenly, and shoot straight on. Designing the scene itself — unique objects, a busy background — matters even more; the full playbook is photo locks that work first time →
3 · Set a reward
Every lock can hand the player something when they open it — a clue, an image, a file, or a line of story. This is what lands in their inventory, so use it to carry the puzzle forward.
4 · Publish and share
New games start private (only you can see them). When it’s ready, set the visibility to unlisted or public and share the link or code.
Full details on visibility levels and share codes are in accounts & sharing →
